Are There Natural Cures for Diabetes?
By Bobby Beaulieu of Best Natural Health Cures
Are There Natural Cures for Diabetes? Diabetes is a health condition where the patient experiences abnormally high blood sugar levels. It can be caused by many different circumstances and conditions, but it must be treated or the individual can experience serious medical risks or even death. Those with diabetes will typically need to check their blood sugar level on a regular basis to make sure that their regulation efforts are successful. Often those efforts include the use of prescription medications, but there are some natural cures for diabetes that can help to keep the condition under control all by itself, to lower the necessary dose of prescription medication, or to increase the efficacy of the drugs that are being taken. The first step is to keep regularly active and achieve a healthy body weight. People who are overweight or obese have a higher risk of having high blood sugar because the added weight makes it harder for the body to self-regulate. Exercising on a daily basis not only helps to achieve and maintain that healthy body weight, but it also helps the various organs to perform at their best. Another significant element of natural cures for diabetes is food consumption. It is very important to discuss the right kinds of diets and foods with a doctor before making any changes to what you eat. Typically, a proper diabetes diet should avoid some specific kinds of foods such as sweets, refined sugars, glucose, syrups, fruit sugar, molasses, jam, pastries, ice cream, cakes, chocolates, and soft drinks. Foods that are high in some kinds of fats should also be avoided, including condensed milk, butter, cream, hydrogenated vegetable oil, and fried and deep fried foods. Diabetic people should also be cautious of canned and preserved foods that contain high salt/sodium levels and chemical preservatives. Salty foods and caffeine should be kept to a minimum, as should animal-based foods such as poultry, red meats, and eggs. Many people find that they can enjoy many herbal teas or green teas in place of black tea or even coffee, so that they can still have a hot beverage, but without the high caffeine content. People with diabetes should be careful of alcohol consumption. Though it is most recommended that alcohol be eliminated from the diet altogether, if it must be consumed, it should be done in moderation and never on an empty stomach, avoiding sugary alcoholic beverages. Diabetics should drink water throughout the day, consuming at least eight 8-ounce glasses each day. Smokers should quit the habit as it reduces the body’s ability to metabolize glucose. Some herbs and vegetables that are known to help with blood sugar regulation include bitter gourd (also called karela or bitter melon), fenugreek seeds, cinnamon, gymnema sylvestre, grapefruit, amla (emblica officinalis), freshly crushed raw garlic, Indian blackberry seeds, neem seeds, or turmeric powder in amla juice.
